DL Hockey is proud to be a partners with up and coming Yoga Extraordinaire/Instructor, Jessie Bohner. Jessie will be teaching hockey specific yoga classes to enhance athlete performance for players at all stages of development.
Benefits of Yoga for Hockey Athletes
• There is an emphasis on proprioception and neuromuscular efficiency for better body awareness, control, and accuracy of movement. Since hockey requires intense power and ability to withstand high-velocity collisions this is crucial.
• Yoga poses focus on mobility/flexibility and core stabilization to enable max power, avoid injury, and enhance balance.
• Because of the flexed posture and frequent hyperextension stress of skating, hockey players are at a significant risk for tight hip flexors and weak lower abdominals, which can lead to both chronic and acute low back pain. Yoga will significantly decrease this risk by both stretching hip flexors and low back muscles and strengthening the glutes, back, and abdominals.
Jessie Bohner received her 200 hour certification from Yo Yo Yogi in Portland, OR under Terri and Alex Cole. She is a certified personal trainer with The National Academy of Sports Medicine and enjoys fusing her love of sports with yoga. Jessie teaches an athletic style vinyasa class. Her focus is on the athlete’s need for muscular balance, strength and restoration. And her sequences are carefully crafted to restore mobility while increasing range of motion, stability, and agility through all joints.
Originally from the midwest, Jessie has recently settled her roots down in Portland. She is excited to be joining Doug and Max on further providing youth and adult hockey players the tools to take their game to the next level. The benefits of yoga are expansive. An increase in strength, balance, in addition to injury prevention are just the tipping point.
